Ever have the thought “that pain came out of nowhere”? Pain is actually the last sign that something is wrong. Imagine a bucket and that the rim is your pain threshold. Different stressors will cause that bucket to fill up: not enough sleep, frustration at home or work, traffic jam, too much time at computer, not moving your body enough, fast and processed foods, etc. Every little bit adds up and when it reaches that threshold, BAM you’re in pain. Unfortunately it’s often easy to miss other signals indicating that stress is mounting…pain is the attention getter. (Increasing your body awareness can help you identify those signals sooner.)
The good news is that there are also destressors that can empty the bucket: whole foods, at least 7-8 hours of sleep, exercise, meditation, stretching, massage and other bodywork, etc. A little can go a long way. Even just taking a moment to connect to your breath can help drop your tension level.
In fact do it now. Breathe in through your nose and exhale with a sigh. Now close your eyes and repeat 3 more times. Feel better? Congratulations, you just reset your nervous system and emptied your bucket a little bit more.
Taking the time to find your reset at different time intervals (i.e. 1 minute, 5 minute, 10 minute, 30 minute and 1 hour) can be instrumental in helping you live a life of less pain and more energy & joy. One of my favorites is the 10-20 minute power nap reset. :-)
Contact me for a free guide containing several tips on how you can easily empty your bucket throughout the day.
I’d love to support you in getting a greater stress/tension/pain “reset” and/or helping you to increase your body awareness. I also love helping clients discover the specific resets that are most optimal for them. Click here for current openings.
